Fake Fur Jacket

Project description – The client (DM) wanted a striped fake fur jacket to be worn for an art talk. The fur resembled mink which was quite appropriate because the society he was doing a talk for is called “The Mongolian Minks.” The lining was a medium weight gold brocade with magnetic snaps for the closure. This client was very patient as I worked on it through my cancer treatments.

Organic Buckwheat Hull Sitting Pillows

The cover is made with Osnaburg Natural 100% cotton and has no openings. I top-stitch all edges of the pillow to ensure it lasts a long time. Then I stuff with 100% organic hulls from a mill in the USA. Buckwheat hulls have been used for meditation and sitting pillows for years. The hulls are very supportive and I don’t scrimp on the amount of hulls in my pillows, but I don’t over-stuff to the point of stressing the seams. As your pillow ages, the hulls will become shiny and pliable. They won’t mold unless exposed to water.

Care – Do not wash, spot clean only.

“I have a lot of long standing issues with my neck and upper back and was in the middle of an “episode” when this pillow arrived. After only 2 nights of sleeping on it, the pain is almost completely resolved. The pillow is very stable, so once you arrange the hulls to suit you, they pretty much stay put. Extremely professional and fast service. Thanks, Mary!!!”

Holiday Neckties Made Into Patchwork Vests

Project description – The client (JH) approached me with a unique idea He wanted me to create these patchwork vests using his father in law’s Christmas ties (which he collected for years). The vests were custom fit to the client and the ties were cut and hand sewn together to make the fronts of the vests. Then the lining and backs were made with red, gold, and green satin. The finishing touch was to sew the tie labels into the backs of the vests.

Patchwork 60’S Style Velvet Jacket (from the film “Pirate Radio”)

Project description – The client (ZT) wanted a replica of the velvet patchwork jacket worn in the wedding scene in the film “Pirate Radio.” This was a challenging project and took almost 7 months for me to complete. All the patches were cut and hand sewn to make the main pattern pieces. Then the pieces were hand sewn together and the lining was added. The final touches were to hand stitch all edges and hand sew the button holes.

Clients review;

“Working with Mary was an absolute pleasure. She made sure to constantly keep me updated on what was going on, what my options were, and how far she had progressed. The final product (in my case, a custom patchwork velvet jacket) was WAY beyond what I expected, quality-wise. Really the only issue was being told it would originally take around two months and it actually took closer to eight. Given, she had situations arise that excused it, but it was just worth noting. Nonetheless, one of the better experiences on CustomMade, without a doubt!”

“Mary is an absolute pleasure to work with. I was scouring the entire Internet for some Irish flag t-shirts for months until I decided to come to CustomMade. When she came to me for a proposition and I saw her other works, I knew I found the right person for the job. She is incredibly adept at her craft, has an eye for detail, is patient, and understands the needs of each of her clients. I know the first person I’d recommend if I or any of my friends or family need anything custom made. If you choose to work with her, you’ll not be disappointed. Thanks again, Mary!”
